Basic Cobblestone Generator in Minecraft

A five-cell water-and-lava channel regenerates one cobblestone block for manual mining. Two hoppers collect some drops into a chest.

Water falls into a lowered pocket while lava approaches from the opposite end. Their contact turns flowing lava into cobblestone, keeping the lava source intact. Mining the center lets another block form. The model shows the operating state, including the first generated block. This original layout is based on standard generator mechanics and has not been tested in game.

Build steps

1. Build the base and collection chain: Coordinates are zero-based (x, y, z), with north at z=0. Build the 7x4 stone-brick base at y=0. At y=1 put south-facing hoppers at (3, 1, 1) and (3, 1, 2), then a south-facing chest at (3, 1, 3). Each hopper feeds the next container. Leave the cell above the chest empty.
2. Shape the channel and lowered water pocket: At y=1 place the stone bricks shown in the model, leaving (2, 1, 1) empty for the lowered water pocket. At y=2 build the north and south walls at z=0 and z=2 and the channel end walls at (0, 2, 1) and (6, 2, 1). Leave x=1 through x=5 at z=1 open.
3. Add water first: Empty the water bucket into (1, 2, 1). Water flows east to (2, 2, 1), then down into (2, 1, 1). Check that it stops at this pocket instead of continuing toward x=5. Do not put another water source in the pocket.
4. Add lava and cover its channel: Empty the lava bucket into (5, 2, 1). It flows west into (4, 2, 1) and forms cobblestone at (3, 2, 1), next to the falling water. Do not place the displayed cobblestone yourself. Place protective stone bricks at (4, 3, 1) and (5, 3, 1), leaving the mining block uncovered.
5. Mine from the north wall: Stand on the north wall at (3, 2, 0), with your feet above y=3, and aim down at the top of the cobblestone at (3, 2, 1). Mine only that block with a pickaxe. Wait for it to regenerate and keep your aim away from the hoppers and containment bricks.
6. Collect and maintain: Open the chest from the south at z=4. Drops caught by the hopper below the mining cell travel south through the second hopper into storage. Some drops can burn in lava. Replace worn pickaxes and empty the chest; generation alone does not harvest blocks.
